Sensoterra sensors can be calibrated to nine different soil types. When your soil is a mixture of different soil types, you can select the dominant soil type as the property for your sensor(s) (the values will not align with the graphic below).
The soil types we currently offer for calibration are:
- peat
- sand
- clay
- loamy sand
- sand (planting soil)
- sand (tree soil)
- clay loam silt
- clay loam
- saline clay
Soil moisture levels can be reported as a percentage level or according to the so-called "Sensoterra Index" (read more about the Sensoterra Index here). But how do you know which moisture level is best for you, your soil type and your crop(s)? This will vary for each situation.
We can recommend a healthy range for maintaining good soil moisture. There are represented in the image below. You can also download this image as an attachment below.
