Installation/Hardware
Issue |
Reason |
Solution |
Consistent 0% value in the sensor data |
Sensor pins not making proper contact with the soil |
Remove sensor, shake it, and reinstall in the soil in a different spot. Do not wiggle sensor back and forth when inserting as this can create a void and prevent proper soil contact. |
The integrity of the sensor compromised (crack or break) |
Usually caused by excessive force during installation. |
If delivered this way, device will be replaced. If caused by the user, the issue will need to be investigated. Sensor may be replaced and advice given on proper installation method: Push sensors into the soil but stop pushing should you feel resistance. In rocky soils, tap in with a rubber hammer. Stop tapping should you feel resistance and find a better installation location. |
No data from sensors farthest from the gateway |
Range may not be optimal or signal may be obstructed. |
Move sensors closer to the gateway or reinstall them at the same location but leave them sticking out of the ground 5-10 cm (2-4 in) to improve range. |

Sudden linear drop or rise in soil moisture value. |
Soil type for the sensor has been changed. |
Historical data is not changed to reflect the new selected soil type. New calibrated data is shown after soil type is changed. |
Soil moisture values not changing after rain |
Depending on the soil type, the depth of the sensor, and the quantity of rain, changes in soil moisture may not register immediately if at all. |

Unexpected high soil moisture values |
High salt content or EC values of the soil may have an impact on soil moisture readings. |
User can create their own adjusted thresholds based on knowledge and experience with soil moisture. A soil analysis will show salt and EC values. |
